With a longer, much harder course than last year, the second ever Bruntwood Aerial Assault was a tough race for the UK’s top climbers. The teams of two ran or cycled (on Choppers) between the climbs at 12 different buildings which ranged in grade from very easy to very hard (8a ish).
Teams started by zip sliding across Piccadilly Gardens, straight into the DYNO contest. The first team score was worked out by the distance dynoed minus the climber’s height. The rest of the points consisted of time taken to get round the course (10 seconds = 1 point) as well as the climbing scores from the building routes. Most routes provided maximum points for topping out (or half points for reaching half way).
Proving they have the ability for some serious running, Gaz Parry and Andy Earl, the UK’s two best competition boulderers, won the Bruntwood Aerial Assault with a confident lead.
Thanks to Bruntwood, Manchester Climbing Centre, Climb Magazine, X1Sports and of course the legend that is Steve McClure, for setting the routes!
