1. The Director's Final Words (of wisdom)
It's count down time for Bristol, and thanks to Jim "Warped Mind" Godden and Chris "Crazy Horse" Gazeley we have a heap of wild challenges waiting for you.
We have some fantastic activities for you to choose from and take part in, within the Prologue and the Main Race on Sunday. For this good reason there are a couple of changes to the kit list - please take note below and please study the updated kit list on the website here. It must be emphasised that it is MANDATORY that each person carries a bike helmet for the Prologue (but you won't need a bike). There are also other exciting activity sites where we will provide the climbing harnesses and helmets. This applies to both the Mean Streets and Adventure Classes, although the Adventure Class CAN choose to carry their own multisport/climbing helmets and/or harnesses as this will speed their transitions - i.e. the straps on your own items will already be adjusted for your size...probably :-)
For the Adventure Class on the Sunday we can reveal that we have flip-flopped the way the Rat Race embraces the city - lots of the activity is on the inside! - Ropes, Boats and Bikes. After completing a main Adventure Loop of navigationally challenging proportions, including a brush with some very neat cars and some 'Extreme Orienteering' (we think Jim means steep and uncompromising - Ed) Rat Racers will return to 'Cross-Over' the event centre. Expect there are a few challenges to conquer here before you can continue on the final short and sometimes 'vertiginous' adventure loop at the edge of the City. This weekend, your helmets will be on your heads more than off. More City-Centred than ever before, and with some destinations on the Adventure Loops very new to the Bristol Rat Race...
2. Recap and Ready Yourselves
- All competitors must now carry or wear a bike or multisport helmet for Mean Streets
- For Mean Streets, climbing harnesses and climbing helmets will be provided for all competitors where the activity requires this
- If you prefer to carry and use your own multisport / climbing helmet and harness for Mean Streets you can, but you must still ensure you have a bike legal helmet
- All Adventure Class competitors who have arranged to hire helmets and harneses must now collect them after Mean Streets on Saturday evening
- For Mean Streets all competitors must carry a swimsuit, and may find swimming goggles useful
- For Sunday we strongly recommend carrying running shoes (unless they are your full-time footwear already) as there will be significant distances running on rough terrain.
- For Sunday we strongly recommend carrying a spare waterproof map bag (an A4 or similar ziplock bag would be fine) as extra paperwork will be issued out on the course.
- Note that bike locks must be carried all of the way round the course on Sunday
- Competitors must wear shoes at all times on Saturday and Sunday unless specifically instructed otherwise by event marshals
3. Event schedule (there are slight revisions to note in the timeline)

5. Party, Prizegiving and Spot Prizes
From 1900, right in the event centre, the prize-giving party will commence. With prize-giving done and dusted by 2000 there can be little reason to miss this, especially if we tell you that once again spot prizes will be despatched - you need to be there though! We always welcome your stay at the extended party immediately after ..... there are often a few adventures to be had here too. Oo-ar!
The Detail Events team are gearing up to welcome you to an awesome 2008 Rat Race Adventure, all Ship Shape and Bristol Fashion.
