1) Two weeks to go – Race Director’s preview and entries still open
The Rat Race is coming to town. Belfast is buzzing and both myself and Stewart Caithness (course director) have been working on the structure of the race for the past few weeks. Its a fascinating and vibrant City that has literally flung open its doors in anticipation of the Rat Pack descending onto its streets for the ultimate urban adventure.
We have tapped into some of Belfast's most historical sites and your journey through the streets will be challenging, memorable but most of all fun - Rat Race style. Belfast is open as you have never seen it before.
Entries to the race are still open and we would encourage anyone who is still interesting in entering to get along to the web site at www.ratraceadventure.com. We will also be able to accept a limited number of entries at race registration on Friday 8th August between 8 - 10 pm and Sat 9th August between 7 - 9 am.
See you on the Start line!
Brian Elliott
Race Director
2) Event Village
The Event Village will be based in the very heart of town in the grounds of the mighty and spectacular City Hall. This location will feature strongly in your race. The eyes of the City will be on you. Members of the public will be all around you. It’s a great site and a superb place from which to start and finish the race. You will pick up your climbing and abseiling equipment here and the Rat Race gear shop will be on hand in case you have forgotten anything pre-event.
3) Event Schedule
The event timeline is given below. Please take note of all of the timings:
2000 - 2200 Rat Race Registration (Friday 08th)
0700 - 0930 Rat Race Registration continues (Saturday 09th)
0800 - 1000 Skills refresher sessions (if you have booked them – read below)
1030 Rat Race briefing and warm up – ALL to attend
1100 Start of the Belfast Rat Race
1900 Finish of the Belfast Rat Race and course closes
2000 Prize giving
4) Harness / Helmet – supplied
Good news! We will supply helmets and harnesses for no extra cost for the Belfast Rat Race so you do not need to hire them. (If you prefer to use your own equipment you can do so). If you DO need these items, you must sign up for them at the Rat Race Urban Adventure Shop. Follow the instructions on the screen to reserve your equipment and it will be waiting for you at Registration.
5) Skills Refresher Session
We have 2 training sessions available to you on the morning of the race if you want to brush up on rope-work and/ or kayaking. These are not mandatory; they are intended to give you the extra confidence you may need prior to the event should you be rusty on these disciplines.
Each course is priced at £8 (session lasting <1 hour) or £15 for both. They are usually popular, so make sure you let us know ASAP if you want in on the refresher action. To sign up, please email info@ratraceadventure.com and state your name and team name and which sessions you are interested in. We offer up these refreshers in "waves" at 0800, 0900 on the Saturday so please indicate which time suits you best. We will do our best to accommodate you - but please bear in mind these are popular courses so we may not be able to offer you your first choice of time. Remember that we require all participants to have some experience of abseiling and kayaking prior to the event kick-off.
6) Race Crew
If you are local to Belfast or perhaps bringing a friend or partner, we are always happy to enroll you as event crew. Jobs are
varied, but each and every crew member has an important and valued role to play at the event. You will need to be adaptable and hard-working, plus use initiative and be quick-thinking in dealing with situations whether they are at Rat Race Base or in a remote location on the course. The role of an event crew member is demanding... but extremely rewarding at the same time. You will be warmly welcomed by the Rat Race team and you are sure to find your day a most rewarding experience. You will find full info on our Event Crew page. If you have any questions please write to dorota@allinthedetail.com
For further info or to ask specific questions call Rat HQ on 0845 009 4365 or email us at info@ratraceadventure.com.
OK. Rat’s all for now….see you on the Start line on the 9th August for the inaugural Belfast Rat Race!
