The ultimate venue for the ultimate Rat Race is once again in the shadow of the Tower Bridge, and the route will set forth across the City streets and cycleways, taking you to a very special collection of activity and action venues. And all this the day after a solid few hours of foot navigation in the very centre of the City on Saturday evening. - For Saturday night head torches are not mandatory but as the course closes up to 8.00pm we would recommend them.

- The Saturday course is open from 5.00pm until 8.00pm but penalties will kick in after two and half hours so being on the course between 7.30 and 8.00 will be a judgement call on whether you can score more points than acquire penalty points. The details of penalties points will be on your Saturday night description sheet.
- If you have hired harness and helmet you will need to pick it up after the finish of the Mean Street Prologue (not at the registartion)
- On Sunday you will be getting wet - at least up to the waste so please take note and you may want to keep anything valuable in your backpack dry by using a small dry bag.
- The Sunday course has a number of short cuts where your team will be able to CUT certain sections out to help your complete the entire route and the most fun bits. The details will be in the Sunday route book which will be given to you on the Saturday night after the mean streets has finished.
- Bike Bells on every bike are mandatory for Sunday.
2) Medical Forms and Self Declaration of Mandatory Kit
We have uploaded the Competitor Medical and the Self Declaration of Mandatory Kit to the website (here). We strongly recommend that you print these, fill them in and bring to the registration. Each competitor needs to fill in one Medical Form and each team needs to fill one Self Declaration of Mandatory Kit. You will receive your race number on the day at the registartion.
Teams must stick together at all times. Maximum 50m team member seperation.
3) Kit listIf you are not sure whther you have the right mandatory kit you can check it out on the website ( here ).
4) Venue & Parking
The event is once again based in the shadow of Tower Bridge at Potter’s Fields on the South Bank. This is where the Rat Race starts and finishes on both days. There is on-street and underground parking close by and we would recommend the Butler’s Wharf car park at the corner of Curlew Street and Gainsford Street, SE1 2NY. It’s outside the congestion charging zone (just) and is 24 hour, underground and secure. http://www.123-car-parking.co.uk/Butlers-Wharf-Central-London-Parking.php
5) Race Crew
If you are local to London or perhaps bringing a friend or partner, we are always happy to enroll you as event crew. Jobs are varied, but each and every crew member has an important and valued role to play at the event. You will need to be adaptable and hard-working, plus use initiative and be quick-thinking in dealing with situations whether they are at Rat Race Base or in a remote location on the course. The role of an event crew member is demanding... but extremely rewarding at the same time. You will be warmly welcomed by the Rat Race team and you are sure to find your day a most rewarding experience. You will find full info on our Event Crew page. If you have any questions please write to dorota@allinthedetail.com
6) Special offer from Profeet
Profeet, UK’s leading customized insole and sports footwear specialist, are sponsoring the London Rat Race 2008. Profeet are offeing all 2008 Rat Racers exciting retail discounts at both the Profeet stores. Look out for the Profeet discount vouchers in your race goodie bags enabling you to:
- 25% off Video Gait Analysis that includes foot pressure mapping
- 10% off customised insoles, for your running or sports shoes - made while-you-wait. (It is an appointment based service, lasting approximately an hour.)
- 10% off running shoe brands
7) Mandatory Kit - Harness and Helmet
We have hired out our entire supply of these to racers. In order to do the roped activities, you MUST have these items. A biking helmet will not suffice for rope-work as it is not designed for use in this environment. This is a critical point and you will not be allowed to abseil or climb with a cycling helmet.
The good news is that we have a special offer from our Rat Race shop.
We have a LIMITED number of Salewah Helium G2 multi-sport helmets available for sale for London – no more carrying separate climbing and cycling lids. Save time and weight with the ideal adventure racers helmet. Just click go the www.ratraceadventure.com/store to find out more.We will also have some great deals on our favourite brands like Endura, Clif bars and Nuun hydration tablets, as well as big discounts on all Endura kit bought at the weekend.
8) Prize giving and PartyThe party will be held in the Barrowboy and Banker pub at London Bridge. It is literally right on London Bridge, 5 minutes walk from the event village. This starts at 1930 and we will be offering up some free drinks. There will be food available for those that are ravenous (at cost) and the prize giving will take place here too, at 2000. Bring your mates if you like and remember, we do have good spot prizes so you might win something, even if you haven't hoovered up the course.
We'll see you on Saturday in London town,
