Sheffield Rat Race – Magna announced as a venue
We are breaking a little with tradition here, but we want to do so this once to tell you about a really exciting venue that will feature within the 2009 Sheffield Rat Race. The Magna Centre www.visitmagna.co.uk used to be the largest single producer of steel in the World in its former life as the vast Templeborough Steelworks. It is now an award winning hands-on science discovery centre. And, as you can see from the pic, this colossal factory building is literally dripping with Rat Race potential. We’re not going to tell you what you will encounter here but this is Steel City after all, so expect to come up close and personal with blast furnaces, crucibles, heavy machinery and smelting gear. Specifically, this will be scene of some amazing ropes activities for the Sheffield Rat Race. A true icon of South Yorkshire, you will be getting to know this building intimately so if you are in the area and fancy a pre-event recce, we can thoroughly recommend the £8.95 entry fee. Dads go free this weekend too for Father’s Day! |

Cliffhanger in Sheffield – we’ll see you there!
The Rat Race is a big fan of other events that share its spirit of urban adventure. So we thought we’d tell you all about Cliffhanger – the outdoor event for outdoor people – a true Sheffield classic occurring this 11th and 12th July. This event has been underway now for 3 years now and it seems to get bigger and better each time. The Rat Race will be there this year with our mobile climbing tower and our merchandise stand. Dangle from a crane next to Tower Bridge
New for the London Rat Race 2009, we are giving thrill seekers the opportunity to throw themselves off a crane (or lower yourself a little more gently!) right next to mighty Tower Bridge, within the Rat Race event village. Our partners Ex Element are running their huge 150 foot bungee as part of the Rat Race event village and our own Skyline abseil crane will be parked up there too. So for £50 or £35 respectively, admire the views of the London skyline and Tower Bridge from 150 feet high, then jump (or abseil) off the crane’s special platform back down to Terra Firma and the hustle and bustle of the Rat Race’s South Bank event village. Channel 4 to make Rat Race TV Series for transmission in September
It seems the Rat Race is never far from celluloid these days and we are proud to confirm that Channel 4 are to run a special Series covering some of this year’s events, featuring 30 minute programmes on Edinburgh on 6th September, Sheffield on 13th September and Belfast on 20th September.
