Everyone is familiar with some of the icons of Newcastle, both people and urban landscape. The Tyne Bridge, The Angel of the North, Gazza, Auf Wiedersehn Pet, Viz and a whole raft of popular culture nest along the river Tyne. From its industrial and ship-building roots, Newcastle has developed as the regional capital of the North East of England, offering up imposing industrial skylines and hidden greenery, leafy suburbs and inner-city grit. From the world-famous Tyne Bridge the city centre unfolds as a multi-levelled cacophony of urban life up the steep banks of the River Tyne.

Newcastle is notable for its mix of old and new. The Norman castle and traces of Roman-era Hadrian's Wall can still be seen as well as the medieval cathedral, together with more listed classical Georgian buildings than anywhere else in England, outside of Bath and London. Alongside this rich heritage can be seen more recent architectural gems such as the SAGE, the BALTIC and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and of course many reminders of its huge industrial heritage with dockside cranes, warehouses and a myriad of city centre bridges.

As an adventure location, we think you are in for a first rate event here. There is actually two cities in play, Newcastle (north of the river) and Gateshead (south of the river) and the enthusiasm from the City Councils in both Newcastle and Gateshead is electrifying. With these strong endorsements in place we will carve out the very best the city has to offer in terms of urban adventure, from our base at Baltic Square, next to the Millennium Bridge on the south bank of the Tyne right in the heart of the city. And we can reveal we already have permission to use one major city landmark for some ropes activity – you’ll have to wait and see which one we mean!
Anyone who has been on a night out in Newcastle will have experienced that famous Geordie lust for life. From the colourful sights and sounds of revellers in the Bigg market, the shipyards of Wallsend, the Roman heritage underneath the city and the roar of the terraces at St James’ Park, Newcastle is alive. And we are going to get under its skin to bring out a totally new, fresh and innovative Rat Race this summer!
