The Brighton event is one of our new and exciting Nine 2 Five event formats, compressing a Weekender's worth of Rat Racing activity into one 8-hour day of action. You can picture the event village by the sea; sun scorching, waves crashing on the pebbly shore, saltiness prevailing, bikes littering the promenade - hundreds of Rat Racers on a start line. Bang! Which way do you run? Rat Racers disperse along the shore and into the streets, crashing along the pebbles and pavements to reach the first of many checkpoints in this opening 'Mean Streets' stage.

Returning to the bikes within the hour, you then set off on one of the Adventure loops. You have a few to choose from, but which one do you take first? Choose to get wet, aerial or navigationally challenged and start out in what is likely to be one of three directions. West towards the Marina, Saltdean Lido and Newhaven, East towards Shoreham or perhaps North towards the South Downs and the mighty Devil's Dyke, where it truly gets hilly and it's the perfect terrain to show-off your mountain biking prowess. After polishing off one of these loops - by your team successfully completing the activities and locating the checkpoints, you will return to the event village for a brief but taxing challenge, before setting out once again, and again, until all the loops are completed. Finally, as the end of the 8th hour approaches and you have dropped your bikes for the last time, it's back into the streets on foot to mop-up as many of those checkpoints squirreled away in the Laines and around. Race Leaders might have a couple of hours for this, whereas the tail-enders by now might just grab a few checkpoints and some good revitalising ice creams on route!
