The Newcastle event is one of our new and exciting Nine 2 Five event formats, compressing a Weekender's worth of Rat Racing activity into one 8-hour day of action. You can picture the event village in the centre of the architectural drama-land that is sandwiched between Newcastle and Gateshead embracing the mighty River Tyne. Surrounded by stunning buildings, bridges and sculptures, you will wait amongst hundreds of Rat Racers on the start line for the big off. Bang! Rat Racers disperse from the City centre and into the streets and alleys, pounding the pavements to reach the first of many checkpoints in this opening 'Mean Streets' stage.

Returning to the bikes within the hour, you then set off on one of the Adventure loops. You have a few to choose from, but which one do you take first? Choose to get wet, aerial or navigationally challenged and start out in what is likely to be one of many compass directions that day. West towards the Metro Centre? East towards Tynemouth, Whitley and the North Sea? South towards Gateshead Stadium and the Angel of the North? North through the magnificent St James’ Park stadium and on to Town Moor? Who knows? Whatever happens, your decisions, navigation and team-work will be challenged to the max this day. After polishing off one of these loops - by your team successfully completing the activities and locating the checkpoints, you will return to the event village for a brief but taxing challenge, before setting out once a again, and again, until all the loops are completed. Finally, as the end of the 8th hour approaches and you have dropped your bikes for the last time, it's back into the streets on foot to mop-up as many of those checkpoints squirreled away in Newcastle’s big Toon centre. Race Leaders might have a couple of hours for this, whereas the tail-enders by now might just grab a few checkpoints and some good revitalising liquid refreshment
