PRIZES FOR 2008

In 2007, Rat Racers competed to win an awesome prize-pot of kit, holiday escape packages and vouchers, thanks to our incredible sponsors, Columbia Sportswear, Ellis Brigham, the Trinidad and Tobago Tourist Development Company and the Fiji Visitors Bureau. With £10 000 of Columbia apparel, £6000 of Ellis Brigham vouchers, heaps of spot prizes and All Expense holidays to Trinidad and Tobago and Fiji it was a bumper catch of prize value all round! For 2008, we really think it's worth dusting off that training plan and giving this year's Rat Race your all, for the prizes will just keep on coming! You don’t have to win an event either – the Rat Race prides itself in its spot prizes – awarded for achievements as diverse as best marshal, spirit if the event and best comedy moment.

RAT RACE CATEGORY PRIZES

Ours sponsors will be rewarding 1st to 3rd places for all events in each race along with Best All Female team and Best All Male team. There will be class prizes for 3s and pairs in the Nine 2 Five events (Newcastle, Brighton and Birmingham) and lots of spot prizes awarded across an eclectic mixture of other criteria.

RAT RACE SERIES PRIZE

The Rat is out of the bag now and we can reveal that the winners of the 2008 Rat Race UK Series will be off to Melbourne for an action-packed adventure down under. With flights, hotel and an awesome race ahead of them, it’s going to be a steamy encounter in the heat of the Australian sun as the best of British take on the finest Australian adventurers in the land.

Rat Race Points Series

  • For any team that wins a Rat Race in 2008, they will be awarded 12 points, then descending points as follows; 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (to tenth place)

Conditions on Qualifying Events

  • Qualifying events are any Rat Races in Great Britain in 2008.
  • The best 3 event results will be used, as nominated by the team, immediately after the last Rat Race of 2008.
  • One of the team (called a Counter) must have completed any 3 Rat Race events in 2008 - this counter does not have to be present in all or any of the Qualifying events. A team is allowed any number of Counters.

General Qualifying Conditions

  • At least one 1-Day and one 2-Day Rat Race must be completed by the team.
  • The team name must not change during 2008, neither can any sponsor suffixes be added to the team name, to qualify.
  • As the teams can choose from their 'wins' it is more likely for there to be draws. If there is a draw then the teams will be seperated by the aggregate time difference of their lead over the other team across all events where those teams were at the same event, including those events where neither team used that event as a counter (that is unlikely however). The time difference will be expressed as a percentage so that event variances are catered for.
  • For a counter to qualify they must have finished the event together in a complete mixed team of 3. Mixed teams only can qualify.
  • Teams can complete events as teams of 2, but if so, none of that team of 2 can be used as a counter for that event.

Notes

  • A 'squad' will not need to be declared pre-season.
  • Counters or Counting Events will not need to be declared pre-season.
  • The 2008 season starts with the Birmingham Rat Race and ends with the last Rat Race of 2008, currently London Rat Race.
  • There will be a special prize for the greatest number of appearances by any Rat Racer in any team for 2008.

Happy Racing!
