Edinburgh has been Ratified

July 2008

It was with enormous pride that I stood on the stage in Princes Street Gardens last Saturday night and shouted "Go!" with all my gusto! For 4 years running I'd been down there on the start line racing with some good results and a lot of memories of classic Mean Streets Activities. For the first time I was on the other side of things but the anticipation of what lay ahead was every bit as strong! I knew you were in for a good combination of activity checkpoints and interesting out of the way locations for the unmanned checkpoints, and was just hoping that no one run into a lamp-post! Edinburgh rats return en-masse

18 July 2007

The Rat Race returned to Edinburgh, and West Princes Street Gardens, for the fourth year with the city continuing to offer a difficult and diverse challenge as racers faced checkpoints ranging from the strenuous to the sublime.

With the largest entry seen at a Rat Race, the event village was buzzing in anticipation of the challenges that lay ahead for the Mean Streets Prologue on Saturday evening as racers registered, checked kit, browsed the stalls and soaked up the sun in advance of the start time of 5pm. As the Princes Street shoppers headed for home they were faced by over 600 Columbia clad racers racing out of the gardens seeking their share of the crazy checkpoints scattered across the city. Seek the Ninja

July 2006

For Rat Race newbies arriving at race HQ in Edinburgh is an exciting and slightly unnerving experience ... this is not your normal low-key setting for an adventure race – it’s about as far from a village hall as you can get!

In Princes Street Gardens, in the middle of the city centre and right underneath the castle the event centre is a mixture of race, concert, exhibition and party – all going on at once. As teams registered through Saturday afternoon the bands had started up on the Ross Bandstand stage and crowds were gathering in the amphitheatre of seats. Visitors were wandering among the sponsor and retailer stalls, having a go at a bike skills course, climbing wall and nearby zip wire. A big LED screen was being erected, and in the midst of all this racers were receiving their Columbia race shirts, which marked them out as the stars of the show. Read on...

Street Rats

July 2005

Race Racing was back in Edinburgh last weekend. The venue in Princes Street Gardens was the same as for last years first ever race, set beneath the castle with a stage and grandstand for the entertainment, and the event village set up in the gardens. With a big screen, bands   DJs, skateboard and parkour displays there was always something going on and drawing the crowds and helping introduce adventure racing to the masses. And for the teams there was plenty of space for registration and preparation, and some time to enjoy the setting and activities on Saturday after theyd registered, as the Mean Streets Prologue didnt start until 19:00.
